Riviera Style with our Knitwear

History of the Riviera Style The “Riviera Style” refers to a style that evolved over the course of a few decades by affluent holidaymakers from around the world, who would travel to the French and Italian Riviera to spend their summers starting from the turn of the century. The items of clothing are a mix of influences, due to the mix of people from different backgrounds that ended up congregating on the riviera, and included clothing from sportswear, clothing for sailing, civilian wear, even military wear. Here is our take on the breton stripe: It was then further glamourised by the Hollywood elite in the 50s and 60s - think Alain Delon in Purple Noon or Cary Grant in How...

Styling the Cashmere Silk Tennis Polo in Navy

The cashmere silk tennis polo is a great choice for the summer time, especially when the weather is still fluctuating between sunshine one moment and wind and rain the next. The reason is that unlike ordinary polos that are usually made using cotton, cashmere silk is more temperature regulating and moisture-wicking - this means that it’ll keep you warm if you get hit with a sudden spell of wind and rain, but you also wouldn’t overheat when the sun comes back out again. Our cashmere silk tennis polo is made in Scotland using the world’s finest cashmere silk yarn from Italian heritage mill Cariaggi. The softness of the cashmere, laced with the lightness of silk, creates a hand feel that...

Styling the Merino Sport Shirt in Brown

The merino sport shirt is a great choice for the spring/summer time, especially when the weather is still fluctuating between sunshine one moment and wind and rain the next. The reason is that unlike ordinary t-shirts and polos that are usually made using cotton, merino is temperature regulating - so that it’ll keep you warm when the wind and rain hit suddenly but you also wouldn’t overheat when the sun comes back out again. In addition, merino is moisture-wicking, meaning that it will dissipate sweat and odours more easily, preventing that clingy, clammy feeling you sometimes get with cotton t-shirts when they get wet or when you sweat. It’s also designed with a slightly longer short sleeve for a more...

Styling the Cashmere Cotton Collegiate Raglan Sweatshirt

Ivy League Roots The cashmere cotton collegiate sweatshirt is inspired by the traditional Ivy League sweatshirts first own by footballers at the turn of the century in the US. Back then, the material would have been made in a thick cotton, but critically, it was designed to have a longer ribbed hem and cuffs, and often with raglan shoulder to allow for ease of movement. Our version of the collegiate sweatshirt adopts these original features including the raglan shoulder, but we’ve made a luxury version of it, using a special blend of cashmere with cotton that achieves the perfect balance between the remarkable hand feel of cashmere and the sporty resilience of cotton. It’s the perfect garment for those who...

Styling the Breton Stripe Sweater

Our cashmere cotton breton stripe sweater is a great piece for spring summer. With the warm weather usually requiring one to wear fewer layers, it can be difficult to add interest to an outfit. The breton stripe is therefore a great option - in a light, fresh stripe, it evokes the elegance of holiday wear in the French Riviera but without looking gaudy. It’s also sufficiently light and breathable, being in a blend of cotton and cashmere, as opposed to pure cashmere. The breton stripe sweater was pioneered by the French navy in the 19th century. It was designed to be durable and for ease of identification if someone fell overboard. Traditionally made in a tough cotton fabric to see...
