Our mock neck is a stylish alternative to the crew neck and inspired by the garment of choice of creatives and intellectuals of the beat generation of the 50s and 60s, counting the likes of Bob Dylan, Michel Foucault and John Lennon among its champions.
The mock neck has a higher collar that rises half way up the neck, and would make for a stylish companion to tailoring in substitution of the shirt and tie, for that deceptively demanding “smart casual” look.
It can also be worn as a mid-layer with a shirt underneath - the slightly higher neck allows for a small part of the collar of your shirt to be shown without having to pop it. Or wear it the other way round, make the mock neck an inner layer and wear a casual shirt over the top - a perfect combination for the colder months.
Knitted to a slim fit and made using 100% superfine lambswool from Todd & Duncan's prestigious Lamaine range, regarded as the world's softest lambswool.
This is no ordinary lambswool. It is just as warm, hardy, moisture-wicking and breathable as the chunkiest of lambswool, but does not have the same coarse texture often associated with lambswool, thanks to it being the world's finest (and therefore softest) of its kind, making it soft to wear against the skin.
Naturally springy and resilient (given the long staple length of the fibre), it is also very good at keeping its shape, much like the best merino wool garment, except that it is thicker and warmer.
Higher neck that comes up to the Adam's apple but no further, in keeping with its 1960s inspirations
Slim modern fit but has a small amount of natural stretch and moulds to body over time
Body of sweater tapers slightly from the chest down to the hem to give a more fitted look by minimising excess fabric often found around the waist of sweaters
Smaller armhole compared to traditional "baggy" sweaters, without being overly restrictive
Take your usual size for a fitted, slim look, or size up for a regular fit
Model wears size 38/S. He measures: chest circumference 36" (92cm); height 6"1 (185cm).
We are confident in bringing you the world's finest knitwear because we only use the very best at every stage of manufacture: Quality of fibre: 100% superfine lambswool of the highest quality, sourced from a special breed of South African sheep. Fibre diameter is c. 18.5 microns, making this the world's finest, softest lambswool (most lambswool averages 21 - 24 microns). Fibre length is c. 42mm - the longer staple length keeps the sweater in shape and avoids pilling. Quality of yarn: 1-ply superfine lambswool yarn (same thickness as 2-ply cashmere yarn) produced by spinnersTodd & Duncanat their Loch Leven Mill in Kinross, Scotland, industry heavyweights who have been spinning yarn for 150 years - world renowned for their consistently high quality and strong yarns.
Quality of knit: knitted, hand-finished and washed by fourth generation heritage knitwear specialists in Hawick, the Scottish Borders,a region whose expertise in the trade is without compare. Garments are knitted tightly to minimise gaps and to ensure longevity.
Quality of finish: there is a high degree of hand-finishing. The sweater is"fully-fashioned", as signified by the faint-dotted lines along the sleeve-head of the jumper. This makes the garment more well fitted, much like a bespoke suit. Individual pieces of the sweater are “hand-linked” - a meticulous process by which each tiny knit-loop at the end of each piece of the sweater is linked together by hand, ensuring the seams are the straightest and strongest.
Quality of wash: the finished product is carefully washed in pure Scottish waters with the precise balance of minerals, so that the garment is given its famous soft handle without compromising the integrity of the fibres. Scottish knitwear may feel a little stiff to begin with but will soften naturally with age.
