Article: Styling the French Linen One Piece Collar Riviera Shirt

Styling the French Linen One Piece Collar Riviera Shirt
This year Colhay’s made an exciting move into new territory, branching out into the non-knitwear field with our French Linen One Piece Collar Riviera Shirt. Not only is this a garment made from linen rather than our usual cashmere or wool, it’s also a made in Japan piece. The very best knitters can be found in Scotland, hence we knew we wanted to make our knitwear there from the very beginning, and with our linen pieces we wanted to repeat this practice of working with the finest producers. We found suppliers in Japan, where manufacturers are famed for their exceptional attention to detail, meticulous levels of precision, and unwavering dedication to their craft.
The quality of the shirt is exemplary. If we were to choose one standout feature, though, it would be its one piece collar, a refined design rarely seen on a casual shirt, where the collar is, as the name suggests, made with a single piece of fabric. In this instance there is no join from the collar down to the front of the shirt, creating a smooth extension and, in turn, the shirt is much easier on the eye without jarring seams and stitches.
We also love its versatility. Looking for something that’s stylish yet easy to throw on and comfortable to wear during the summer? This piece ticks every box. Having said this, it’s also incredibly easy to smarten it up for an office outfit, with the luxurious collar roll adding a little formality.
Below we’ve outlined some of our favourite ways to style the French Linen One Piece Collar Riviera Shirt for both formal and casual settings, in our two colourways, hopefully providing readers with a little inspiration.
French Linen Riviera Shirt in Navy
Look One:
Here you can see we’ve paired the navy version of the shirt with a cream blazer. This is a simple but elegant, refined and classic look. It’s an easy go-to for when you’re looking for a formal way to style your shirt.
Note that looks two to six below feature other items in our range as opposed to our new Riviera Linen Shirt. Given the similarity of the colours, we thought it would be helpful nonetheless to use these pictures to demonstrate how our new shirt in navy could also be styled in terms of colour combinations.
Look Two:
For something casual, comfortable and easy, try pairing your French Linen Riviera Shirt with a pair of light wash jeans, and finish with a pair of black loafers. Light wash denim with navy blue is a timeless colour combination that you can rely on for a quick and easy summer outfit.
Look Three:
If you want to take the formality up a notch with the French Linen Riviera Shirt, stick with the light wash jeans and loafers, and simply add a black linen blazer over the top. Although some people do find the colour combination of black and blue slightly challenging, we feel, as it’s a fairly dark shade, this particular navy goes well with black. If you want to add a little interest and bring out some of the other colours in the outfit, try adding a bandana worn around the neck.
Look Four:
Our fourth look is great for holiday wear or other casual occasions. Style the French Linen Riviera Shirt with a pair of white jeans, a great colour match for the navy, and add a denim jacket over the top. With the jacket, you can go with either a light or dark wash - as long as it’s within the blue palette, any shade will tie the outfit together nicely. Should you want to accessorise, you can add a bandana again. Here we’ve chosen blue and gold, to complement the colours used in the rest of the outfit.
Look Five:
In this look we’ve styled the French Linen Riviera Shirt with a pair of olive trousers, to demonstrate that you don’t need to be restricted to solely blue shades with this shirt. When styling navy garments, olive might not be the first colour you reach for, however, though not necessarily an obvious pairing, we feel it’s one that works really well.
Look Six:
Finishing off with another formal outfit, we’ve dressed the French Linen Riviera Shirt up with a blue checked blazer and a pair of grey trousers. The grey trousers, another versatile item that many men already own, smarten the outfit up a little, while a patterned blazer gives some depth to an outfit that would otherwise be solely composed of block colour. Again, we’ve added a bandana, but this is for extra flair and isn't essential.

French Linen Riviera Shirt in Olive
Look One:
Here you’ll see we’ve paired the olive version of the French Linen Riviera Shirt with something navy. Again, showcasing the pairing as a great colour combination. This outfit also highlights the cohesion of a textured blazer set against the smooth, block colour shirt. Look closely and you’ll spot the raised texture and the white laced within the blue. This is an excellent example of easy formal attire that’s perfect for the office.
Again, looks two and three here feature our other items in our range as opposed to our new French Linen Riviera Shirt. Given the similarity of the colours, we thought it would be helpful to demonstrate how to style olive with other colours, in a way that you can replicate with our Riviera Shirt, or indeed with other linen pieces.
Look Two:
This second look has a real summer holiday feel, like it could be plucked straight from the French Riviera itself. We’ve styled the olive French Linen Riviera Shirt with a pair of white jeans, another easy colour pairing. If you want to smarten this outfit up, for dinner for example, try adding a green or olive blazer. In this instance, we recommend choosing a shade that’s different to the shirt and/or something with a discreet pattern or delicate texture. This way, you’ll avoid a solid green block and add some definition between the blazer and shirt.
Look Three:
This final look you’ll notice is a little smarter. We’ve added grey trousers and a navy double breasted blazer to create an excellent office outfit that’s ideal for day-to-day wear. It’s similar to the first look, but elevated slightly with the grey trousers, and demonstrates how the French Linen Riviera Shirt can move from holiday to office mode with very little effort.
