"Friends of Colhay's" is a series of lookbooks featuring our friends in the menswear community who have worn our knitwear in particularly stylish and creative ways that we think would make for wonderful styling inspirations to others.
This lookbook features our cashmere ribbed submariner rollneck in ecru and merlot.
Cashmere Ribbed Submariner Rollneck in Ecru
Tonal Combinations
Perhaps the most pleasing and easiest colour combination is found in tonal palettes - in our case, matching brown, camel with ecru, as shown below.
The first look combines a dark brown shearling jacket with camel trousers and our cashmere ribbed submariner rollneck in ecru:

In the outfit above, Mr. Vaes demonstrates the versatility of this pairing by incorporating suede (trousers) and corduroy (shirt) textures in camel tones, enhancing the tactile richness of the outfit. The woolliness of the rollneck going nicely with the fluffiness of the corduroy and slightly hairy texture of the suede.

Toshihiro Yasutake applies the same principles - of combining camel with ecru. Here, the Cashmere Ribbed Submariner Rollneck in Ecru is effortlessly elevated when paired with a an oversized camel coat, creating a harmonious balance of warmth and texture. The oversized nature of the look gives it a casual, chic feel that the Japanese are so well known for. But this colour combination would still work just as well if the pieces were more fitted. The look is completed with tonal faded black/grey jeans, achieving a refined and earthy palette.

Another way of creating a tonal brown, here incorporating a gilet, and a cheque print of brown tones.
Casual Easy Styling
The classic nature of the cashmere ribbed submariner rollneck in ecru is that it need not be fussed about. If you prefer to just throw it on without putting in too much thought, you can always guarantee a tasteful, warm, casual outfit.
Firstly, some country wear inspiration with Paul Croughton. The slightly unusual thing here is that as opposed to a more traditional dark olive or brown country jacket, Paul wears a beige/cream one, which goes tonally with our cashmere ribbed submariner rollneck in ecru. Look finished with wellies in true English fashion, of course:
In the example below, our friend Steve simply wears it with a pair of pleated grey trousers with a brown western belt showing the true ease of creating a chic look with our Rollneck.

Below, Toshihiro Yasutake demonstrates the subtle elegance of layering ecru tones for a clean, monochromatic look. The Cashmere Ribbed Submariner Rollneck in Ecru, paired with a lightweight over shirt in a similar shade, creates depth through texture while maintaining tonal consistency.

A great example of the cashmere ribbed submariner rollneck in ecru paired simply with indigo denim. The denim grounds the outfit with a bold contrast, balancing the creamy softness of the ecru palette:

Styling Ecru with Contrasting Colours
For those feeling adventurous, try pairing the cashmere ribbed submariner rollneck in ecru with more rich, contrasting colours, the ecru acting as a neutral blank canvas upon which you can show your personality.
In this example, Mr. Vaes pairs the rollneck with an overcoat in a cream/light brown/blue check. Note that he deliberately pops the collar of his denim shirt to tie in with the light blue check of the overcoat. The ecru rollneck then ties in with the brown and cream colours of the overcoat.
With busy patterns on a coat, the trick is to tease out the constituent colours, and then wear other items of clothing to go with those colours:

Similarly, the rollneck pairs beautifully with a deep green blazer. It's a colour that may not naturally come to mind but the boldness gives it plenty of personality. The creamy warmth of ecru contrasts with the rich coolness of green, creating a harmonious balance of light and dark.
Cashmere Ribbed Submariner Rollneck in Merlot
Our merlot colour is a little unusual, so people may struggle to work out what colours go well with it.
If you are in doubt, we have found any shade in brown works really well.
Take a look at the look below by Shuhei Nishiguchi.
The first look is a lovely combination between merlot (of the rollneck), taupe (of the suit) and brown (gloves):
The look below is a variation of the above. He continues to wear the taupe/brown suit with the merlot rollneck, and then wears a chunky scarf with predominantly taupe and reddish purple colours which tie in with the merlot rollneck and his taupe/brown suit. Brown leather shoes to tie in also with taupe/brown suit below.
The look below is a combination of all of the above. Merlot rollneck, with taupe/brown suit, brown/cream/purple check coat and taupe/purple scarf. All the colours are tied in together, creating a coherent look:

A more casual outfit but the look below also demonstrates how merlot works with brown. Desuyo styles the cashmere ribbed submariner rollneck in merlot with a brown leather jacket below.
