Our tennis cardigan is modelled after the chunky lambswool or cotton cardigans worn by tennis players over their tennis polos prior to the 1950s to keep warm after a match. It was often made in an off-white or cream colour, to go with the players' regulation "tennis whites". The regulation, though strict and cumbersome, had the unintended effect of breeding a stylish off-shoot of sportswear whereby everybody in the club looked dashing in off-white, tonal ensembles - what we now reminisce as the romance of old tennis uniforms.
Just like its vintage inspirations, our tennis cardigan is made using a luscious 100% superfine lambswool in a light oatmeal colour. The superfine lambswool is from Todd & Duncan's prestigious Lamaine range, regarded as the world's softest lambswool. It is chunkier than merino, but still soft and breathable.
Its woolly texture also contrasts well with other lighter pieces in our knitwear range, including our cashmere silk tennis cardigan.
Our tennis cardigan is furnished with Italian made horn buttons in natural dark brown, making it a luxurious, versatile piece of knitwear with uses that go far beyond the tennis court! It can be dressed up with a shirt and suit for a classic look, but can also be worn casually with a pair of light wash jeans and a t-shirt.
It is thicker and warmer than most merino cardigans, with a weight of about 400 grams. It is not bulky though, and will fit comfortably under a blazer or coat so, perfect for layering on chilly summer evenings.
As with our classic crew neck and v necks in the same yarn, it possesses all the properties of traditional lambswool that we know and love, including its warmth, moisture-wicking abilities and breathability, whilst being soft to the touch.

We are confident in bringing you the world’s finest knitwear because we only use the very best at every stage of manufacture:
Quality of fibre: 100% superfine lambswool of the highest quality, sourced from a special breed of South African sheep. Fibre diameter is c. 18.5 microns, making this the world's finest, softest lambswool (most lambswool averages 21 - 24 microns). Fibre length is c. 42mm - the longer staple length keeps the sweater in shape and avoids pilling. Quality of yarn: superfine lambswool yarnproduced by spinnersTodd & Duncanat their Loch Leven Mill in Kinross, Scotland, industry heavyweights who have been spinning yarn for 150 years - world renowned for their consistently high quality and strong yarns.
Quality of knit: knitted, hand-finished and washed by fourth generation heritage knitwear specialists in Hawick, the Scottish Borders,a region whose expertise in the trade is without compare. Garments are knitted tightly to minimise gaps and to ensure longevity.
Quality of finish: there is a high degree of hand-finishing. The sweater is "fully-fashioned", as signified by the faint-dotted lines along the sleeve-head of the jumper. This makes the garment more well fitted, much like a bespoke suit. Individual pieces of the sweater are “hand-linked” - a meticulous process by which each tiny knit-loop at the end of each piece of the sweater is linked together by hand, ensuring the seams are the straightest and strongest.
Quality of wash: the finished product is carefully washed in pure Scottish waters with the precise balance of minerals, so that the garment is given its famous soft handle without compromising the integrity of the fibres. Scottish knitwear may feel a little stiff to begin with but will soften naturally with age.
