Styling the Shawl Coat

The Superfine Lambswool Shawl Coat

Our superfine lambswool shawl coat is designed to be a cosy and snug yet elegant outerwear piece, with plenty of combinations and layering in mind. The adjustable belt allows for as little and as many layers of clothing underneath as you want, without it ever feeling too tight or too loose.

A slim silhouette can always be achieved because how much the two front panels overlap can be adjusted, and then you simply need to tie the belt to cinch it tight around the waist.

The superfine lambswool shawl coat ends just above the knee and is knitted in a slightly lighter weight compared to our superfine lambswool shawl collar cardigan, allowing the bottom part of the shawl coat to flow more naturally, and give it some “swish” and flair when moving around.

Outfit 1.
Superfine lambswool shawl coat in dark brown
Cashmere rollneck in ecru
Grey flannel trousers

A smart casual outfit - we paired our dark brown superfine lambswool shawl coat with our ecru cashmere rollneck here. The superfine lambswool shawl coat makes for a casual, yet elegant alternative to an overcoat.

Ecru and brown complement each other, and although both are of rib-stitch construction, the thickness of the ribs is slightly different to provide some textural contrast.

Outfit 2.

Beige denim jacket
Grey flannel trousers
Brown chelsea boots

Substituting the ecru cashmere rollneck with a beige denim jacket. The denim jacket is a similar colour to the cashmere rollneck, making it a substitute that works within the same colour palette.

The denim jacket adds a casual element to the outfit given the smarter flannel trousers. Finished off with brown boots to go with the dark brown superfine lambswool shawl coat.

Outfit 3.

Superfine lambswool cricket sweater in cream and olive
Grey flannel trousers

A third variation on the outfit - we substituted the beige denim jacket with our cream/olive cricket sweater. The hint of olive works well with the brown, and the predominant cream colour of the cricket sweater works as the substitute to the beige denim jacket.

A more playful combination - the large collar of the superfine lambswool shawl coat hugs the neck so you won't feel too bare around the neck area, even though you are wearing the v neck cricket sweater on its own.

Outfit 4.

Blue jeans
Cashmere shirt cardigan in oatmeal
Double breasted check sport coat

In keeping with the beige/brown colour tones, we styled our dark brown superfine lambswool shawl coat with a sport coat and our oatmeal cashmere shirt cardigan. The lapels of the sport coat align with the v shape of the shawl collar on the coat.
This outfit demonstrates how you can wear two layers underneath without the coat feeling too tight or bulky, the belt positioned where you can cinch in the waist.

Outfit 5.

Double denim
Blue/grey check sport coat
Black loafers

Another example of layering with the superfine lambswool shawl coat, this time with our navy version. A smart casual option when you are heading out and you have to dress up, but longing to bring with you a part of cosy home comfort.
The superfine lambswool shawl coat acts like a blanket - only one that is socially acceptable to be worn outside. The double denim is in a lighter wash and therefore contrasts well against the darker navy of the superfine lambswool shawl coat.

The sport coat is also in a greyish blue colour, but in a different shade to the denim shirt and navy superfine lambswool shawl coat, and in a faint, subtle check pattern, providing further contrast against the block colours of the two pieces of knitwear. The superfine lambswool shawl coat has the added benefit of being able to be folded back on the front to reveal layers underneath.

Outfit 6.

Cashmere rollneck in merlot
Grey flannel trousers

Our navy and merlot work particularly well next to each other - a perfect combination when it’s a cold, windy day and you are looking to double up on knitwear.

it is also a supremely comfortable and cosy combination compared to wearing more formal clothes like tailoring or winter coats.

Outfit 7.

Fisherman’s cable rollneck in ecru
Grey flannel trousers

A slight variation to the outfit above - substituting the merlot cashmere rollneck with our ecru fisherman’s cable rollneck. Ecru is a versatile colour and works with navy and grey. The thick pronounced cables on the superfine lambswool rollneck also provide some textural contrast against the rib-stitch of the shawl coat.

Outfit 8.

Grey check suit
White poplin shirt
Dark green tie
Black boots

This outfit shows how our superfine lambswool shawl coat can be worn as part of a more formal outfit. The grey check suit and white shirt are muted colours that work with the rich navy of the shawl coat, and we added a dark green tie with faint pattern to bring interest to the outfit consisting of mostly plain block colours.

It’s great as a coat substitute, or as a comfort gown you want to wrap up in when working from home.

Outfit 9.

Superfine lambswool cricket sweater in cream/navy/burgundy
Denim shirt

Another combination involving our cricket sweater with the superfine lambswool shawl coat. This time we chose the cricket sweater with the navy and burgundy v neck trim, to go with the navy superfine lambswool shawl coat. The denim shirt was chosen as it works with the darker navy of the superfine lambswool shawl coat.

Outfit 10.

Cashmere shirt cardigan in dark olive
Dark raw denim jeans

Knit on knit ensemble - here the plain stitch of the cashmere shirt cardigan contrasts the rib-stitch construction of the shawl coat.

We also particularly like the navy, dark olive and raw dark denim colour combination - they are all fairly dark colours, but each has its own richness that complements each other and brings out the qualities in one another beautifully.
