Features

Inspired by the relaxed, nonchalant cardigans championed by 20th century painters like David Hockney, our painter's shawl collar cardigan is designed with this aesthetic in mind. Knitted densely in a soft, luscious and thick 4-ply cashmere, the knitted fabric has an incredibly substantial "heritage" hand feel to it, whilst being unbelievably soft against the skin when worn. It is also designed so that it has a lovely drape when left unbuttoned, but will look fitted and smart when buttoned up - the perfect combination of style and comfort, and a must-have companion to have around with you all autumn winter. As it is lighter weight compared to our superfine lambswool shawl collar cardigan and cashmere shawl collar cardigan, this makes for the ideal "mid weight" cardigan for those transitional months.

Knitted in a plain stitch for smartness and comfort, using Todd & Duncan's prestigious cashmere, the world's finest cashmere yarn made in Kinross, Scotland, it is incredibly versatile. Wear it over a dress shirt as a substitute to a tailored jacket for a smart casual look at the office - the deeper v neck and the lapel roll of the shawl collar imitating the shape you would have on a well made tailored jacket; or you can use it as a mid-layer, wearing a large coat or even a sport coat over the top for extra warmth.

Its unrivalled softness, durability and exceptional warmth will easily make this your most trusted companion for many winters to come.

It boasts:
  • Italian made horn buttons in natural dark brown
  • a rounded shawl collar which when flipped down, follows the same shape you would have as a tailored jacket with a "lapel roll"
  • 2 side pockets rather than patch pockets, for a modern, cleaner look

Fit

  • This style runs small. We suggest sizing up from your usual size.
  • Slim modern fit but has a small amount of natural stretch and moulds to body over time
  • Body of cardigan tapers slightly from the chest down to the hem for a more fitted look and to avoid "bagging" around the waist area when buttoned up
  • Armhole is slightly smaller than traditional shawl collar cardigans for an overall trimmer silhouette but not too tight to allow for ease of movement and layering

As Worn

Model wears size 42/L. He measures: chest circumference 40" (102cm); height 6"1 (186cm).

Unrivalled Quality

We are confident in bringing you the world’s finest knitwear because we only use the very best at every stage of manufacture:

Quality of fibre: 100% cashmere of the highest quality sourced from inner Mongolia. Fibre diameter is c. 15.5 microns and length is c. 38mm, making the fibre some of the world's finest and longest, which means the softest and most durable

Quality of yarn: 4-ply cashmere yarn produced by spinners Todd & Duncan at their Loch Leven Mill in Kinross, Scotland, industry heavyweights who have been spinning yarn for 150 years - world renowned for their consistently high quality and strong yarns.

Quality of knit: knitted, hand-finished and washed by fourth generation heritage knitwear specialists in Hawick, the Scottish Borders, a region whose expertise in the trade is without compare. Garments are knitted tightly to minimise gaps and to ensure longevity.

Quality of finish: there is a high degree of hand-finishing. The sweater is "fully-fashioned"This makes the garment more well fitted, much like a bespoke suit. Individual pieces of the sweater are “hand-linked” - a meticulous process by which each tiny knit-loop at the end of each piece of the sweater is linked together by hand, ensuring the seams are the straightest and strongest.

Quality of wash: the finished product is carefully washed in pure Scottish waters with the precise balance of minerals, so that the garment is given its famous soft handle without compromising the integrity of the fibres. Scottish knitwear may feel a little stiff to begin with but will soften naturally with age.
