Christmas Gift Guide

With 2025 wrapping up and Christmas on the way, it’s time to start gathering gift ideas for loved ones. When we’re choosing a gift for someone special to us, we want to find something equally as special - and we want to get it right when we’re choosing for someone who is more of an acquaintance too. After all, no matter the recipient, it’s a true joy watching someone unwrap a gift they love.

Colhays cashmere clothing

For us here at Colhay’s, we find clothing, and knitwear in particular, is a gift that combines practicality with sentimentality and that works perfectly for both scenarios.

Firstly, when you gift knitwear, you’re giving warmth and comfort - two sentiments we can all appreciate! Secondly, gifting a piece of clothing to someone you know well is a relatively personal act, conveying that you’ve noticed and appreciate that person’s sense of style alongside their day-to-day routine and lifestyle.

If you want to give knitwear at Christmas, you’ll undoubtedly want to choose pieces that are high quality, comfortable and long lasting too. Garments that check all of these boxes were frequently found in shops say, fifty or sixty years ago, but are increasingly hard to come by on the modern high street.

Curated for cosy knitwear

The overarching principle here at Colhay’s is quality-first. Every decision we make centres around the quality of our garments. In many respects we favour the ‘old ways’, championing production techniques that promise the best results in terms of durability and longevity of the garment, regardless of how much time these said techniques take up. The same is true when sourcing our materials. The yarns we use are made by a renowned spinning company that has been in business for over a century. Rather than unreliable plastic buttons, we use only Italian horn. The people who put our garments together, our knitters based in the Scottish town and knitting capital, Hawick, are experienced, knowledgeable and as passionate about high quality knitwear as we are.

Each of these elements comes together to create garments that make superb gifts. Our sweaters and cardigans are investment pieces - heirlooms that can be worn for years on end before being passed down through generations. With this in mind, our knitwear can make  genuine and special gifts.

At Colhay’s we also put a lot of thought into each of our designs, creating something unique rather than simply following what’s on trend. Much like traditional production processes, we also love classic styles. Often, though, the garments we take inspiration from have a fairly boxy design that’s not particularly complimentary on the body. We take the time to ensure every piece of knitwear we design has features that subtly modernise, create elegant shapes, and promise an almost universally flattering look. It can certainly be tricky to pick out clothes for someone else - what we wear is a very personal decision - however, if you choose our knitwear, you’re guaranteed a versatile garment that can be styled quickly and easily with items most men already own.

Below, we’ve created a quick run down of our favourite Colhay’s pieces for gifting this holiday season.

Our Top 5 Best Knitwear Gifts for the Season

1. Superfine Lambswool Shawl Collar Cardigans

If you want to buy knitwear for someone but you’re perhaps a little unsure on which garment to choose, you can’t go wrong with a shawl collar cardigan for Christmas. This practical and cosy design suits almost all bodyshapes and is our most popular piece. It’s easy to wear, can be dressed up or down, and, with a shawl collar that emulates the v-shape created by tailoring, is very complimentary on the body. As well as wearing as a cardigan, you can also try it as outerwear. Available in a variety of colours, this is the garment that can do it all, a true all rounder!

2. Cashmere Ribbed Submariner Rollnecks

At 580g, this roll neck is considered heavyweight knitwear. It’s knitted with a rib construction that traps warm air against the body and keeps you comfortably warm when the temperature drops. It’s a dense knit, made with a four ply yarn, making it a real winter warmer, perfect for someone who loves wrapping up and feeling cosy!

3. Cashmere Belmondo Rollnecks

Inspired by the French New Wave cinema movement of the 1950s and 60s, the Belmondo Rollneck oozes sophistication without shouting about it. This piece is more of a mid-weight rollneck so it makes an ideal gift for loved ones that live in a kinder climate, travel a lot, or simply love layering.

4. Cashmere Alpine Half Zips

Half zips are a classic style that suit almost every body type. They’re incredibly popular amongst modern men, and with good reason. They’re warm, don’t require a great deal of effort or thought when it comes to styling, and are generally a very versatile garment. If the person you’re buying for doesn’t like rollnecks (or if you’re unsure whether they do), they’ll likely be keen on the idea of a half zip which can be zipped up for warmth (and a face framing flattering effect) if you wish, or worn unzipped for comfort.

5. Cashmere Wool Chalet Cable Sweater in Camel and Cream

Cable knit patterns and Christmas festivities go hand-in-hand. Lots of people don their cable knits at this time of year. Inspired by the sweaters worn for apres-ski by mid-century skiers, we like to think it works really well as a Christmas jumper for those who don’t like the idea of loud or jazzy clothes. Festive but chic, this sweater is perfect for someone who loves to embrace the festive season and look elegant at the same time.

If you’ve got questions about any of our knitwear, whether it’s for a gift or for yourself, please don’t hesitate to contact us and one of our team will get back to you. For now, Merry Christmas and happy shopping!
