Features

Taking its cues from the thick, hard-wearing garments worn by fishermen of the British Isles, this sweater is a bolder, hardier cousin of the standard cable knit, featuring a pronounced honeycomb cable pattern and a ribbed rollneck for extra warmth and a dose of rugged charm.

It is made of a substantial 6-ply superfine lambswool yarn, weighing c. 550 grams, making it sumptuously thick, sturdy and warm. It is also remarkably soft, given that the superfine lambswool used is from Todd & Duncan's prestigious Lamaine collection, renowned for being the world's softest.

This piece will see many years of regular wear and quickly become a perennial "go to" for those chilly days when you need an exceptionally warm, practical sweater that goes with any outfit.

In a nod to the sweater's seafaring origins:

  • The rollcollar rises midway up the neck so as to avoid scratching the beard and chin area whilst retaining the same insulating properties of a rollneck sweater, trapping heat inside the body from the neck down
  • Body of sweater is knitted shorter and close to the body to avoid bagging and excess fabric which might weigh you down when wet - perfect for higher waisted trousers or jeans
  • Ribbed cuffs and hem a touch longer and thicker than usual, to better trap heat and to keep the sweater tightly in place, allowing for greater mobility
  • Cuffs come up slightly shorter than usual, just touching the wrist bone - this was to avoid fishing nets being caught on the cuffs
  • Cuffs are long enough to be turned up allowing for sleeve adjustment

Fit

  • This style runs small. We recommend that you take one size up from your usual size
  • Please see size guide at the bottom of the page
  • Slim modern fit but has a small amount of natural stretch and moulds to body over time
  • Body of sweater tapers slightly from the chest down to the hem for a more fitted look by minimising excess fabric often found around the waist of sweaters
  • Smaller armhole compared to traditional "baggy" sweaters, without being overly restrictive

As Worn

Model wears size 42/L. He measures: chest circumference 40" (102cm); height 6"1 (186cm).

Unrivalled Quality

We are confident in bringing you the world’s finest knitwear because we only use the very best at every stage of manufacture:

Quality of fibre: 100% superfine lambswool of the highest quality, sourced from a special breed of South African sheep. Fibre diameter is c. 18.5 microns, making this the world's finest, softest lambswool (most lambswool averages 21 - 24 microns). Fibre length is c. 42mm - the longer staple length keeps the sweater in shape and avoids pilling

Quality of yarn: 6-ply superfine lambswool yarn produced by spinners Todd & Duncan at their Loch Leven Mill in Kinross, Scotland, industry heavyweights who have been spinning yarn for 150 years - world renowned for their consistently high quality and strong yarns

Quality of knit: knitted, hand-finished and washed by fourth generation heritage knitwear specialists in Hawick, the Scottish Borders, a region whose expertise in the trade is without compare. Garments are knitted tightly to minimise gaps and to ensure longevity.

Quality of finish: there is a high degree of hand-finishing. The sweater is "fully-fashioned". This makes the garment more well fitted, much like a bespoke suit. Individual pieces of the sweater are “hand-linked” - a meticulous process by which each tiny knit-loop at the end of each piece of the sweater is linked together by hand, ensuring the seams are the straightest and strongest.

Quality of wash: the finished product is carefully washed in pure Scottish waters with the precise balance of minerals, so that the garment is given its famous soft handle without compromising the integrity of the fibres. Scottish knitwear may feel a little stiff to begin with but will soften naturally with age.

    Size Guide

Sizes for this style run small. We suggest taking the next size up from your usual size. The measurements of the garment are set out below. To ensure you have the correct size, you may wish to take a measuring tape to one of your existing jumpers with the best fit and compare measurements. Measurements are approximate, but any variance is minimal and will not impact overall fit given that knitwear has stretch.
