Features
Inspired by the beautifully intricate cable knit sweaters donned by skiers in the mid-century, our chalet cable sweater is knitted in an elegant pattern that is unique to Colhay's, drawing from motifs of traditional aran knit cable sweaters.
Made in Scotland using a blend of soft merino wool and cashmere, the chalet cable sweater has a dense, substantial hand feel but it is not too heavy, allowing it to be worn comfortably under a tweed or flannel sport coat without it feeling too bulky.
The cashmere component in this sweater gives it an unbelievably soft feel whilst benefiting from the robustness and sportiness of merino wool, making this sweater perfect après-ski, as well as a perennial “go-to” for those chilly walks in the park during the autumn/winter months.

Unrivalled Quality
We are confident in bringing you the world's finest knitwear because we only use the very best at every stage of manufacture:
Quality of fibre: a blend of the world's highest quality cashmere with the highest quality merino wool. The 30% cashmere comes from fibres sourced from inner Mongolia, with a fibre diameter of c. 15.5-15.8 microns and length of c. 30-32mm, making the fibre some of the world's finest and longest, which means the softest and most durable. The 70% merino comes from Australia and New Zealand in thin fineness grades, allowing it to mix seamlessly with other noble fibres like cashmere. The fibre diameter is c. 17.5 microns (extrafine), with a fibre length of c. 55-60mm, therefore also making this merino some of the world's softest and most durable.
Quality of yarn: 4-ply cashmere wool yarn produced by heritage Italian spinner Filati Biagioli Modesto based in Montale, with a history dating back over 100 years. Having gained industry renown over many years for their uncompromising attitude to producing the world's highest quality yarns and their expertise in blended noble fibres such as cashmere wool, it is now owned by a group of luxury conglomerates who have made it their mission to uphold the spinner's century-old Italian craftsmanship that made it famous in the first place.
Quality of knit: knitted, hand-finished and washed by fourth generation heritage knitwear specialists in Hawick, the Scottish Borders, a region whose expertise in the trade is without compare. Garments are knitted tightly to minimise gaps and to ensure longevity.
Quality of finish: there is a high degree of hand-finishing. The sweater is "fully-fashioned", as signified by the faint-dotted lines along the sleeve-head of the jumper. This makes the garment more well fitted, much like a bespoke suit. Individual pieces of the sweater are “hand-linked” - a meticulous process by which each tiny knit-loop at the end of each piece of the sweater is linked together by hand, ensuring the seams are the straightest and strongest.
Quality of wash: the finished product is carefully washed in pure Scottish waters with the precise balance of minerals, so that the garment is given its famous soft handle without compromising the integrity of the fibres. Scottish knitwear may feel a little stiff to begin with but will soften naturally with age.
