Styling the Cashmere Cotton Collegiate Raglan Sweatshirt

Ivy League Roots

The cashmere cotton collegiate sweatshirt is inspired by the traditional Ivy League sweatshirts first own by footballers at the turn of the century in the US.

Back then, the material would have been made in a thick cotton, but critically, it was designed to have a longer ribbed hem and cuffs, and often with raglan shoulder to allow for ease of movement.

Our version of the collegiate sweatshirt adopts these original features including the raglan shoulder, but we’ve made a luxury version of it, using a special blend of cashmere with cotton that achieves the perfect balance between the remarkable hand feel of cashmere and the sporty resilience of cotton.

It’s the perfect garment for those who prefer something a little more hardwearing than cashmere, a bit more casual and light weight. It’s also ideal for these transitional months given that it is lighter than 100% cashmere.

Given that it is a more sporty piece, it leans itself to casual outfits, including shorts, further making this piece ideal for spring summer.

Available in navy, dark olive and cream, the colours are all versatile and can go with a variety of outfits.

Take a look below for some styling inspirations with our cashmere cotton collegiate sweatshirt.

Styling the Cashmere Cotton Collegiate Raglan Sweatshirt

With the navy cashmere cotton collegiate sweatshirt, you can style it in a classic Ivy League way, in keeping with the sweater’s roots, that is, with a pair of light wash jeans and an Oxford cloth button down in a light blue and white stripe.

The key here is to go with a pair of jeans that are a bit lighter, to provide sufficient contrast against the dark navy of the sweater.

The same goes with the shirt - going with a lighter pastel light pale blue, pale stripe blue or white are perfect. The jeans and shirt, being blue, tie in with the navy of the sweater which also belongs in the blue palette:

The raglan shoulder of the sweater is a small detail, but makes the look more casual, adding a relaxed touch to the outfit.

If it were a standard navy crew neck (like our 100% cashmere or superfine lambswool) with set in sleeves, then the look would still work but it would be more traditional.

To make a crew neck sweater more casual, you can always style it with a t-shirt rather than a shirt underneath, like so:

For a more formal look with the cashmere cotton collegiate sweatshirt, you can swap out the jeans and striped shirt, for a white shirt and cream trousers:

As mentioned before, given the casual look of the collegiate sweatshirt, it also works really well with shorts, such as in this outfit here:

The dark olive version of the cashmere cotton collegiate sweatshirt works much the same way. You can style it with a pair of light jeans. For this outfit, we’ve gone with double denim (denim shirt and denim jeans) for an extra dose of rugged charm:

Again, you can dress this up with more formal trousers; cream trousers always work really well.

To make the look even more formal, you can also add a collared shirt or polo shirt - as we have done here, with our cashmere silk tennis polo in cream:

Dark olive goes well with cream, hence our choice of the cream polo and white trousers.

Finally, you can wear a blazer over the top to complete the formal look. We’ve opted for a green in a different shade, to keep the palette quite monochromatic and consistent:

Just like the other colours, the cashmere cotton collegiate sweatshirt goes well with shorts, like this look here with the smart navy shorts. This time we’ve gone with navy to show that the dark olive and navy also go together:

With the cream version of the cashmere cotton collegiate sweatshirt, you can style it in a similar way to the navy and dark olive (i.e. with jeans, light or dark, as well as more formal attire like trousers).

In addition, although a piece of clothing in cream tend not to go so well with other light colours for fear of clashes, because the cream on the cashmere cotton collegiate sweatshirt is darker and muted, it actually goes quite well with other light cream/white colours that are a different shade.

For example, it would go really well with white, such as these shorts featured here; the cream and white having enough contrast:

The cashmere cotton collegiate sweatshirt in cream would also go well with bottoms that are darker in colour, such as a light tan or beige chinos:

Another outfit featuring a pair of shorts, this time together with a tan trench, illustrating that the cream of the cashmere cotton collegiate sweatshirt can go with a variety of colours in the beige/cream/brown world easily.
